2019 Gassman Award Recipient
Florence M. Fass, Esq.
"I am grateful for who I am, where I am, and how I got here – and none of that would have been possible without the kindness of others. The work I do with the WE CARE Fund is just my way of saying: 'Thank you. I'll pass it on.'"
Florence has been a member of the WE CARE Fund Advisory Board since 1994, when she was asked to join the Board by Stephen Gassman, Esq., its founding member. Since that time, she has been an ardent and active member of the Board, where she focuses her energy on events primarily dedicated to children.
In 2001, Florence launched Gingerbread University for the WE CARE Fund, and it has now become a hallmark holiday event for members of the Nassau County Bar Association, their family and friends, with all proceeds going to the WE CARE Fund.
Florence graduated from Fordham Law School in 1979, after receiving her Bachelor’s and a Masters’ Degree in Public Administration from New York University. She started her legal career at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in New York City, but left the firm to move to Long Island, where she eventually joined Stephen Gassman in the practice of matrimonial law.
In 1995, Florence established her own practice, and in 2001, she was joined by Elena L. Greenberg, Esq., her law partner. The firm of Fass & Greenberg, LLP continues to practice exclusively in the field of matrimonial and family law.
Florence’s many awards and acknowledgments for her contributions to the practice of law and the community include, Face to Face (for her work with victims of domestic violence) and her selection as one of the 50 Top Women on Long Island. She was also the first woman to be selected for the Ten Leaders in matrimonial and divorce law on Long Island. She is a long-standing member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar, Family Law Section, and has served the Nassau County Bar Association on its Board of Directors, Judiciary Committee, and as Chair of the Matrimonial Committee. She now serves as Counselor on the Executive Committee of the New York Family Law Inn of Court.
Last year, Florence expanded her charitable horizons with the creation of Remarkable Resques, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation formed with her husband, Patrick, and his son, Mark. Their efforts are devoted to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and neglected animals.
In the end, Florence believes that living a meaningful life is all about “giving back” – and that is what the WE CARE Fund is all about.
